Best graduation of 2011: Emmaleigh graduated Magna Cume Laude with a Bachelor's degree in English and a minor in Publishing and Editing. She is now working as a web copywriter for Nature's Finest Seed. She got the job the day after she graduated. Yay for Emmaleigh! I think she's having a good year.
Best friend week of 2011: I got to visit Amanda in Philadelphia. Saw her busy, busy schedule. Ran in the countryside together and visited historical sites in the city of brotherly love. Ate at Max Brenner's and shopped at Anthro. Wish this could happen every week. Miss her so.
Best sisters' weekend of 2011: Went to Austin with Taryn, Ashleigh and Kennon. Shannon and Eden-- we missed you. Don't skip out again! Ate at Carlos Santana's restaurant as well as every food truck in town! Wow. Took a cooking class with iron chef runner up Seamus Mullen. Shopped til we dropped and laughed til we had to run for the loo! Fun, fun, fun. Love those girls of mine.
Best side trip ever-- 2011: Went to visit Emmaleigh and Jayson in Tustin, CA. Sweet apartment. Saw Jay's work in Newport at the resort. Went to the Newport temple. Visited Balboa Island. Had chocolate bananas. Shopped at some outstanding shops! Saw my great aunt Eleanor.
Best in-law weekend of 2011: Went to NYC with Renee, my mother-in-law and her friend Georgia. Niece Haley joined us as well. Went to see The Addams Family, Sister Act and Million Dollar Quartet on Broadway. Great talent. Fun music. Went to all the old standbys: Canal street, Max Brenners and Mesa Grill. New for me-- Serendipity and Radio City Music Hall. Loved.
Best temple groundbreaking of 2011: Attended the Ft. Lauderdale temple groundbreaking and watched my husband use a golden shovel to dig the earth where a temple of our Lord will stand. Amazing. Chloe and Tanner were there under the tent. Also present, Elder Gonzalez, Elder Gay, Elder Burns and Elder Walker from the temple committee (and also from Raymond). Wonderful spirit. Wonderful day.
Best news of 2011: Emmaleigh and Jayson are moving to Orlando, Florida for a great new job opportunity for him with the corporate vacation club. Proud of you Jayson. Thanks for making our dream come true of having you both near us.
Best vacay in 2011: We cruised from Seattle to Alaska (Glacier Bay, Juneau, Sitka, Ketchican and Victoria B.C.) Can I just say BEE UT I FUL! Emmaleigh and Jayson met us and that was a super treat to be together as a family. Chloe was home from her study abroad to Africa (Most missing of a daughter in 2011) and so we were a family! My favorite times. Holland America was a great cruise line. We had very fun excursions: Wade and I flew in a helicopter to see a glacier and the kids went zip lining. Also we did a sea kayaking trip and saw gorgeous star fish. I wish it never had to end.
Best act of heroism in 2011: Tanner's accidental fire on July 14 was put out by Chloe against the advice of the 911 fire responder. She took the fire extinguisher and read the directions on the way up the stairs to Tanner's room. Firemen said she saved the house. Thankful. Thankful. Thankful. I knew we had you home for a reason this summer, Chloe. I think this may have been it!
Best miscellaneous in 2011: We've had terrific in- between days with visitors, loved ones and friends. Niece Jaime and roommate for days in the sun and days at Disney. Renee and company for an impromptu family reunion. Niece Ryleigh for the pioneer trek at the Deseret Ranch. Amanda and Matt and kids here for days of fun on the intracoastal and at her parents perfect beach house.
Now school must start again and everyone will go their separate ways to fulfill goals and dreams and responsibilities. Bu this is only the first six months of this wonderful, wild year. There are more bests to come, no doubt. Can't wait to see it unfold.
